How do I remove my employee?
These are the steps to remove your employee in your account on the Poppins website:
The first step when removing an employee is to verify their final payroll is up-to-date and correct.
The final open payroll will still run even after your employee is removed, so please be sure to update the final payroll before removing your employee.
We always recommend waiting until the employee's last working day is shown in the date range of the payroll tab before removing them from the system.
To edit the last payroll:
- Click on Payroll.
- Click Edit Payroll.
- Make any necessary adjustments to their final payroll and then click on Save Changes.
Now that you have verified the final payroll is correct, you can remove your employee!
It is a good idea to check the Poppins Resource Page for your state to verify the final pay requirements. In some states, a final paycheck must be paid out at termination or within a few days. You may need to change your payment method to check to pay your employee early if you currently pay with direct deposit.
The next step is to remove your employee from the system. Don't worry, if you inactivate your employee before their final payday, the final direct deposit will still take place! That is why we ask you to update the last payroll before removing the employee.
To remove an employee:
- Click on Employees.
- Click the three dots next to View Details and choose Remove Employee.
- Click Remove by the employee you wish to remove.
- Next, enter the inactivation date which must be today or a day in the future.
- Finally, click Remove Employee.
You have now successfully removed your employee from the Poppins system!
Removing your employee does not delete them from the system--it just stops payroll from generating! We will still save all of your employee's information and payroll history.
If you have multiple employees throughout the year, we will prepare W-2s for each employee who worked with you!
If the employee ever returns, give us a call and we can reinstate them for you!
